Like all fads, massification has lowered standards, and we’ve become accustomed to simpler, faster things. Along the way, we’ve forgotten the fundamentals, we’ve forgotten the basics, we’ve forgotten the techniques.
But there is real expertise out there - you just have to dig deep and knock on the right doors.
We’re saturated with tools and we’ve forgotten the basics#
The mass effect has led to the separation of many areas of expertise and the multiplication of tools. But in this great movement, we have forgotten the fundamentals. We’ve simply forgotten about focus, prioritisation, value and impact, and we’re busy manipulating the endless catalogue of options offered by the various tools.
There is no product without an organisation and no organisation without a product#
Everything is linked, and a product does not emerge ex-nihilo, in a vacuum. It is necessarily the fruit of its context. Without efficient organisation, there can be no good product. But efficient organisation is protean and depends on your context. To make a good product, you have to look at the whole, the organisational envelope, every dynamic.

About us#
Dragoș and Pablo have been involved in the product management movement in France’s digital teams since the very beginning, and want to remind people of this know-how, help them rediscover it and support them. In 2017, they set up the school of product, a conference acclaimed for its quality and highly successful. Together at benext before the company was acquired, they have supported numerous clients and trained many coaches, pm and po both internally and externally.
CTO then Head of Product at a software publisher, consultant, partner and executive, Dragoș Dreptate is a keen observer who helps managers and entrepreneurs to meet their challenges and make progress in a complex, constantly changing world. In 2024 he created The Spark to launch a structure dedicated to product and innovation.
Pablo Pernot is a self-made entrepreneur who has worked for a number of consultancy firms, the last two of which he was a partner and director. His latest venture came to an end when he sold the company to a major American group. He alternates between managing his own structure (strategy, organisation, culture, commitment, HR) and supporting clients. In 2024 he founded Projet Winston.
The École du produit is a joint venture between The Spark and Projet Winston.
